Sand Crab Shuffle

This is one of my Mission Blue 'Nodes' - which you can find on the Google Earth Platform if you head to the Kenyan coastline and locate Tiwi.

During the day these beautiful, pale-coloured Pink Ghost Crabs (Ocypode ryderi), burrow deep into the sand to escape the tropical heat. They inhabit the shorelines from Kenya down to the southernmost tip of Africa. Regular dips in the ocean ensure their breathing gills are kept wet and clean. At night they emerge to forage along the shoreline for washed up morsels of carrion and marine life.

Location: Tiwi Beach, South Coast, Kenya
