Which way to go when you’re lost in the maze? A tiny goby navigates its way across myriad routes on the intricately patterned hard coral it calls home. Only a few centimetres long, these cute jewels are always on the move, rarely stopping for more than a few seconds. The squiggle on the left-hand side of the fish is a parasite hanger-on
The reefs around Dumaguette, in the Philippines are simply stunning. In particular the coral gardens of Siquijor Island which are a haven for vivid, colourful life. This is an IUCN near threatened species of Honeycomb coral.

"I loved the simplicity of this shot the moment I saw it. Firstly, a very well-lit image - entirely across the frame. I like the composition with the goby off centre and very good to have both eyes. Looks like the little chap has a parasite on the left-hand side. If you took the fish out of the scene the image wouldn’t work. What really stands out though is the colour of the coral highlighted by the pink against the green and also the pin sharpness of the image. Well done and a close call with first place. The information supplied advises that the coral is an IUCN near threatened species of Honeycomb coral."
